On June 10, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation proposed a rulemaking that would add cybersecurity regulations for wastewater treatment facilities. The proposal would require certified wastewater operators to obtain cybersecurity training, mandate cybersecurity incident reporting for permittees, and require emergency response planning and cybersecurity controls for Publicly Owned Treatment Works.
In addition, the proposed rulemaking would allow persons submitting cybersecurity information to the Department to request that the information be excepted from certain disclosure requirements.
